Celebrating National Volunteer Week

Today marks the start of National Volunteer Week, an event that helps us recognise the transformational role volunteers have played in communities across Australia.

At Stem Cell Donors Australia, we witness this incredible impact every day. Volunteers are the backbone of our organisation; driving awareness, supporting patients, and helping grow our donor registry. Ultimately, the dedication of our volunteers informs our mission and gives hundreds of patients each year a second chance at life.

Here are a few of the countless ways that volunteers shape what we do, and how you can make an impact with Stem Cell Donors Australia:

JOIN THE REGISTRY

Our registry, and the international registry of stem cell donors, relies on volunteers who commit to being there for patients in need at their most vulnerable times.

Currently, over 170,000 Australians are signed up with Stem Cell Donors Australia; they’re ready and waiting for the call that could help save someone’s life. By joining the registry, you give hope to thousands of blood cancer patients each year, and tens of thousands across the globe.

VOLUNTEER AT AN EVENT

Events are a vital part of our work. They allow us to increase awareness of what we do, help us recruit new donors face-to-face, and contribute to a strong, supportive community.

Help us at community events, donor drives, and awareness campaigns. Every conversation you have, every pamphlet you hand out, could lead to a lifesaving match.

OR HOST YOUR OWN!

From bake sales to fitness challenges and community info nights, hosting an event is a powerful way to raise awareness and encourage others to sign up. We provide resources and support, you bring the energy and passion.

Over the past three and a half decades, our work has been shaped by volunteers; people who’ve donated their time, energy, and stem cells to help others. Without our network of committed volunteers, none of this would be possible.

This National Volunteer Week, we extend our deepest gratitude to every single person who has stood alongside us on this mission. Whether you’ve signed up, spread the word, donated your stem cells, or hand-delivered hope, you are the reason we’ve been able to save so many lives.
