Why you matter

Why stem cell transplants?

Stem cell transplants are commonly used to treat cancers that impact blood cells, such as leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and myelodysplastic syndromes. They can also be used for conditions like neuroblastoma, Ewing sarcoma, recurrent brain tumors in children, germ cell tumors, and testicular cancer.

“I was back to the gym the next day and back to work the next day, it really doesn’t take too much of a toll on your body. If you are able to donate look into it, do your research, find out why it’s important and then sign up. 110 percent I would do it again in a heartbeat. ”

“I don’t think words can convey the gratitude and love I have for my donor. I carry them in my thoughts with me every day. Blood cancer almost snatched my life away from me but my donor gave it back. If you’re thinking about joining the Registry and becoming a donor, please do!”

I am so very thankful for the amazingly selfless act of a stranger who from the other side of the world has given my son the best chance of survival, a second chance of life. It was such a shock to…

It was such a shock to discover I had leukaemia. I had considered myself a healthy person. After chemo treatments it was found that it wasn't enough to survive. I would need a transplant. My medical team would offer me that hope for the future. It was a very difficult process to endure. But how grateful I was that a lady would put herself out at a particularly busy time of year to offer me another chance of life. I did send a letter to this wonderful person in my gratitude.
The wonderful care I received in hospital from both the doctors and nurses was memorable.
There have been some challenges to my health since the transplant but they have been overcome and now I feel well and quite strong with no obvious side effects seven years from the transplant. I am on a chemo tablet - 4 a day which hopefully will keep what I believe are extra medullary lumps away.

What words can convey the gift of life? I am beyond thankful for the kind stranger that spent their time donating their cells to save my life. Your gift has given me a whole new lifetime, and I'm not sure I could ever convey the gratitude I have for this. Every day that I wake up, I am so thankful that my kind stranger chose to help me. Thank you.
