How Australia’s outdoor media industry stepped up to help Rowan

oOh

After learning about Rowan, an 18-year-old diagnosed with leukaemia who urgently needs a stem cell donor, the Australian outdoor media industry stepped up to help raise awareness and encourage more Australians to join the registry.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of leading outdoor media owners oOh!media, QMS, and Stream Outdoor, we were able to take Rowan’s story across the country. These organisations donated premium outdoor advertising space to support the Register for Rowan appeal, amplifying a life-saving message to millions of Australians in their everyday environments.

Most people don’t know that joining the stem cell donor registry is as simple as swabbing your cheeks at home. By putting this message in high-traffic public spaces where it can’t be scrolled past, we reach everyday Aussies who could be the one person someone like Rowan is waiting for.

Campaigns like this only happen through collaboration. The donated placements gave us reach we simply couldn’t afford on our own, and every single billboard made a difference.

We’re incredibly thankful to:

  • oOh!media and QMS for donating their widespread digital billboards across Australia

  • Stream Outdoor for lighting up QLD towns with Rowan’s important message

Why it matters

Someone in Australia is diagnosed with blood cancer or a blood disorder every 27 minutes. For many, a stem cell transplant is their only chance at survival, but they need a matching donor first. Registering is easy, but awareness is still our biggest challenge.

That’s why media support like this isn’t just helpful, it’s life-saving.

Help us keep the momentum going

The Register for Rowan campaign, championed by Rowans family and friends, sparked hundreds of new registrations, but the work doesn’t stop there. If your business can donate media space, skills, or support to help us reach more Australians, we want to hear from you.

Together, we can give more families hope and ensure every patient that searches for a stem cell donor match is able to find one.
