Looking Back at 2024
A NEW NAME FOR WHAT WE’VE ALWAYS DONE
We saw the introduction of Stem Cell Donors Australia in 2024, retiring our old names, ABMDR and Strength to Give. This rebrand now better reflects our mission and aligns with modern medical practices. Already it has proven itself, helping reduce stigma, bust myths, and recruit more lifesaving donors!
DONORS
By the end of this year, we’re on track to recruit 20,000 donors to the Australian stem cell registry, an Aussie record. Now, our registry boasts over 160,000 registered donors who give hope to patients across the world every year.
This amazing milestone couldn’t be reached without you. Whether you joined the registry this year, helped spread the word, or held an event, every one of you played a vital role.
PATIENTS
In 2024, we are set to facilitate just under 450 stem cell transplants for Australian patients. We’re proud to be a part of the lifesaving process for many of these patients.
Around 80% of Australian patients received a transplant from an overseas donor this year, a number which has been decreasing thanks to recent recruitment efforts and an increase in Aussie donations.
On top of the lifesaving impact we’ve made this year, we’ve significantly ramped up our physical presence, hosting many events and activations across the country. We’re hoping to make blood stem cell donation a movement, and we can’t do it without you.
Thank you for your support throughout the year.
Together, we made a big impact in 2024.
Let’s make 2025 the year we save even more lives!
