For over two decades, Daniela Vladislavic has been a pillar of her community as a registered nurse specializing in mental health care. Known for her compassion and leadership, Daniela has mentored countless nurses and helped shape the future of mental health nursing in Australia. Most recently, she managed the “Towards Zero Suicides” Mental Health Team at South Western Sydney Local Health District, dedicating herself to saving lives and supporting those in crisis. Now, Daniela finds herself in need of life-saving support. In May, at the age of 46, Daniela was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) after experiencing extreme fatigue, respiratory symptoms, and pale skin. She has been undergoing treatment at Liverpool Hospital in NSW, but a rare chromosomal mutation has made her path to recovery more challenging. A blood stem cell transplant is now her best chance of survival.

A legacy of dedication and care

Beyond her professional life, Daniela is a devoted wife, aunt, and friend. She and her husband Brendan share a deep bond with their family, including Daniela’s four nephews and niece, as well as their beloved pets – two cats, Willow and Arya, and a dog, Kenji.

Before her diagnosis, Daniela was planning a European holiday with loved ones, reflecting her love of travel and adventure. She also cherishes simple joys: exploring new cuisines, reading a good book, and spending time with her close-knit circle of friends.

Her journey has been a stark reminder of what matters most. As Daniela says, “This journey has taught us the importance of seizing each day with gratitude and finding fulfillment in the simple pleasures of love, laughter, and family.”

How You Can Support Daniela

As a member of the registry, you’ve already taken an incredible step toward helping patients like Daniela. But finding a match can still be a challenge, particularly for someone with Daniela’s Croatian heritage and unique genetic profile. Her immediate family has been tested, but no one is a full match.

You can help by encouraging others – friends, family, and colleagues – to consider joining the registry. Every new donor increases the chances of finding a match for patients like Daniela.

Daniela’s loved ones have rallied around her, spreading her story and urging eligible individuals to join the registry. She hopes that by sharing her journey, others will be inspired to act.

“This is not just for me,” Daniela says. “It could be for anyone who needs a second chance at life. Saving someone’s life – why wouldn’t you do it?”
